Installation guide
Setting it up, step by step
Setup goes faster when the network is settled first, because a fault introduced at the network stage looks exactly like a fault in the plan.
- Step 1. Connect the device to the network, using a cable if one can reach.
- Step 2. Check that the screen is set to a fixed output mode rather than automatic.
- Step 3. Open the player application and enter the access details exactly as supplied.
- Step 4. Let the programme guide finish loading before judging anything — a partial guide looks like a fault.
- Step 5. Play one channel for ten full minutes without touching any settings.
- Step 6. Note the time and the result, then repeat the same test twelve hours later.
- Step 7. Only after both tests read the same should you change a picture or network setting.
How much bandwidth to plan for
| Quality | Per stream | Two streams together |
|---|---|---|
| HD | ~5 Mbps | ~10 Mbps |
| Full HD | 8–12 Mbps | 16–24 Mbps |
| 4K | ~25 Mbps | ~50 Mbps |
Those figures come before downloads, video calls or a games console. If a second screen is added, recalculate from the per-stream figure upward rather than assuming the existing connection absorbs it.
